Counselling Services

As a highly relational, feminist and collaborative counsellor who takes the approach of walking alongside you, I seek to create safety and trust and foster an authentic and non-judgemental space. I believe each person has their own inner wisdom, self-knowledge and resources and will support you to re-connect to yours.

I acknowledge the impacts of intersecting forms of oppression and disadvantage on people’s lives and see the importance of addressing internalised self-blame and shame due to oppression. At times, our inner resources are not enough and I will support you to connect into services to expand support networks.

We will create an equal power relationship. This means demystifying the counselling process, making it transparent and offering you choices every step of the way.

We will focus on and draw out your strengths and capacity, working with you to increase your resiliency, self-esteem and confidence.

Connection is key to healing. Connection to our emotions, bodies, needs, thoughts, and feelings; connection to others and connection to our communities. I will support you to increase your feeling of connection.

I draw on compassion and empathy through mindful listening and holding a genuine presence with you in our sessions.

Supporting you as an individual

Supporting you as an individual with any of the current life challenges or areas of personal self-development and growth you want to explore together. I collaborate with you to decide the focus of counselling and tailor the counselling process to your unique needs. I am experienced in supporting gender-diverse people, men, women and young people.

share lived experience with others in a safe and confidential space

Groups of people seeking support, personal development or growth can receive group counselling together that is focused on a specific theme or topic. This can be a powerful way to share lived experience with others in a safe and confidential space.

Specialising in trauma counselling

I am a specialist trauma counsellor and have supported hundreds of women with the traumatic impacts of violence, abuse and childhood trauma. My approach is to put your psychological safety first and ensure you feel in control of the process.

I focus on the ways you survived and assist you through the stages of trauma healing. I will always believe, validate and affirm you as a victim-survivor.

supporting women, including trans-women and gender-diverse people

I am passionate about supporting women and am inclusive of trans-women and gender-diverse people. I have managed and established women’s counselling services and have trained in feminist therapy and approaches. I bring a gender-aware lens that acknowledges the impacts of gender inequality on life experience and identity for you as a woman or trans-woman as we work through the challenges and needs you bring to counselling.

supporting families, couples and groups

As a social worker, I have extensive training and experience supporting families, couples and groups. We are all relational beings and so much of life is experienced within relationships. I can support couples and families to work through and resolve challenges and move towards nourishing healthy and growing relationships. I’m unable to work with couples currently impacted by family violence.

Supervision, external supervision, clinical supervision, professional supervision and reflective practice

As an accredited Mental Health Social Worker with the AASW (Australian Association of Social Workers), I offer external supervision and clinical supervision to health, community and mental health professionals.

I foster safe and collaborative spaces for professionals to share, grow and develop their skills and knowledge. I provide supervision, reflective practice, communities of practice and group supervision  to social workers, counsellors, therapists, youth and community workers, and people in the caring professions, offering support and confidential space.

My supervision facilitates critical reflection on practice, and professional development and builds on self-awareness, self-care, resilience and professional self-esteem. Critical reflection invites us to understand ourselves and those we support in more authentic and helpful ways, and offers the chance to consider the impacts intersecting oppression, diverse identities, various forms of bias and projection in our work and in our clients lives. Here are some of the things we might do together in supervision:

  • Linking theory to practice
  • Identifying professional development goals
  • Reflecting on how the personal and professional intersect
  • Ethical and values driven practice
  • Intersectional feminist critical reflection
  • What trauma-and violence-informed practice means
  • Unpacking case studies and workplace scenarios
  • Developing professional and clinical tools, strategies and skills

Group supervision is for professionals with mutual areas of practice, and interest or who want to share their professional experiences with others.

I’ve learned so much about the impacts of trauma, and also about anger- that its ok to feel it, and healthy ways to express it.

Your respect for my autonomy (and that of all women) gave me a sense of control over my healing journey.

Past clientCounselling

You’ve really helped me build my confidence to have a voice, to be myself, and to learn more about what I feel- I was so disconnected before

Past clientCounselling

I couldn’t see myself, and now I can see myself more clearly. I can feel my emotions. I can remember my past and be ok. You practice with no ego. You are the best counsellor I’ve ever been to.

Past clientCounselling

I always felt that I wasn’t judged and I was fully accepted.

Past clientCounselling

You made such a huge difference to me and my healing process, helping me see my strengths and start believing in myself. I have really felt your strength, and its helped me to feel strong.

Past clientCounselling

You were the first person to help me to see that the abusive environment I grew up in wasn’t normal, and I didn’t need to accept it.

Past clientCounselling

You’ve supported me and taught me so much about becoming independent, looking after myself, setting boundaries, and now I have energy to finally pursue my interests in activism.
